Know who your team’s weakest link is.  He is the player that you would drop if there was suddenly the need to pick up a player immediately.  This especially comes into play when you need to pick up a closer when the currently closer goes down to injury or he loses his job.

Some of the best trades that I made were the ones that I didn’t make.  Don’t always be in a rush to make a trade just to shake up your team.

Patience is a virtue and a necessity in fantasy baseball.  It will be the hardest thing that you will ever have to practice during the course of a fantasy baseball season.

Check for players that have double headers in the near future.  They get the opportunity to play in 2 games that day, but it only costs you 1 game in yahoo leagues!

Use the “Trading Block” link that is found on your team’s homepage in Yahoo.  The trading block will allow you and other managers in your league to check up to 5 choices per column, the players available on your team to trade, positions available, statistics available, positions wanted, and stats wanted.  For example, I can check off specific players on my team that I am willing to trade.  I can specify which positions that I am willing to trade away (2B, 3B, etc.)  I can specify which stats I am willing to trade away (runs, home runs, etc.). I can specify which positions I am look for (a second baseman for example).  And I can specify which stats I am looking for (stolen bases, saves, etc.).  This can be edited at any time.  Each time that it is edited, it is updated for the league to see on the league home page under “recent transactions.”

Start reviewing your “maximum games and innings” at the bottom of the “My Team” section in yahoo.  This is where you can see the maximums per position.  It indicates by position, the games used to date, home many games remain in the season, the current projections, and maximum games played in your league.  Pay close attention to the number of projected innings pitched to ensure that you stay as close to +0.0 as possible.  If you are way over in projected innings, it is best to either sit your starting pitchers in questionable matchups, or utilize middle relievers instead of a #5 starting pitcher until you get this back under control.

Use middle relievers to help with reducing your high ERA and WHIP.  Replace 2 middle relievers with your #5 starting pitcher and you should be able to reduce your ERA and WHIP, while at the same time maintaining your strikeouts per innings pitched.  You may also pick up some vulture wins and an occasional save or two.

When making trade offers, always conduct them via email first instead of just sending a trade offer.  The advantage are numerous.  You build up a relationship with your league members, they will go to you first in the future for trades, and you may not have to give away as much in a trade than you originally were willing to offer in a trade.  Another advantage is that when you offer an unbalanced trade (for example, a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 trade where your opponent will have to drop players to the wavier wire to balance out the trade), ask your opponent which players he would drop in a deal.  What if he was going to drop players that you could use on your team?  Ask him to include the dropped players in the deal so that you can choose if you want to keep them and drop some of your other players, or just let him drop those players.
